History of the Shop: Making of the Brass Bonneville

A little of the back-story behind LaMar’s tank art on the Brass Bonneville: It’s actually a photograph from surrealist artist Salvador Dali. Teaming up with famed photographer Phillipe Halsman, he arranged a group of nude women in the form of a skull, a work which he titled “In Voluptas Mors,” which translates to “Voluptuous Death.” It’s one of his lesser-known and more scandalous works, and is the perfect fit for a chopper, combining the common motifs of both skulls and nude women that have found their ways onto gas tanks.
